Male', the country's center of political and economic activity is also the hub of Kaafu Atoll. Kaafu Atoll consists of three natural atolls: North and South Male' Atolls and the smaller Gaafaru Atoll to the north. There are seven inhabited islands in the administrative area of Kaafu Atoll.
The islands of Male'Atoll are well connected with regular ferries and passenger vessels that travel to and from the islands. Transfers to resorts in the atoll operate several times a day from the airport.
Hulhule is home to Male' International Airport. The island is exclusively designated for this purpose. Funadhoo to the north of Male' houses the main fuel storage.
Hulhumale' on the eastern side of Male' International Airport is an island built out of the lagoon. The new island which will be several times larger than Male' when it is completed is expected to ease the demand for land in the capital for residential as well as business purposes. Ferries travel between Male' and Hulhumale' twice every hour.
Practically all uninhabited islands of this Atoll became tourist resorts during the two final decades of the 20th century.
